Moms Back in School – How to Balance Home and School Life

There is no harder job in the world than being a mom. Days are long and nights are short. So how do the moms back in school balance school life and home life?

First of all, if you are a mom going back to school, you need to be sure that you are well organized. Make folders for everything. Make one for your financial aid/student loan information and keep everything that pertains to these.
Keep your child on schedule. Bedtime and nap times have to be consistent so that you can schedule your studying time. No matter how much he/she begs or cries, be stern. You will both be the better for it. Bedtime rituals work best, whether it is a bath and a bottle or a nighttime story. If you sent up these now, as your child grows he/she will know what to expect at bedtime and will give you less hassles.
Network with other parents in your same situation. If there are other mothers who are taking classes too maybe their times will differ from yours and you can help each other out. Also, if their child is about the same age as your child and are of playing age, maybe you can arrange some play dates for the kids and study dates for you and the other parent.
Have backup plans in place with family and friends. You never know when your baby will become ill and having to stay home from school or daycare. You would hate to have to miss out on a final because you had not planned ahead.

If you are serious about wanting to return to school and make a better life for yourself and your family, you have to do a little planning in order to make your life a little easier. Going to school while raising a child may not be easy, but in the end it is worth every sacrifice you make now.
